KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2400W Utilities and Documentation CD-ROM Readme V1.3 ============================================================ I. INTRODUCTION This readme file contains special information related to the following items: - CD-ROM - Application Notes - Printer Driver - Status Display ============================================================ II. CD-ROM 1. About Adobe Reader If you do not have Adobe Reader or Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, click "Manual" in the main menu of the Utilities and Documentation CD-ROM, and then click "Install Adobe Reader 6.0". Note: To install Adobe Reader 6.0, Service Pack 2 or later (for Windows 2000) and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later must be installed. If your system does not meet these conditions, install Acrobat Reader 5.0 by double-clicking the program in the \Adobe\acrobat5 directory of the Utilities and Documentation CD-ROM. ============================================================ III. APPLICATION NOTES 1. Acrobat Reader 5--When documents are printed with "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size", while "Print as image" is not selected, they may not print correctly. In this case, you may use one of the following methods: - Select "Shrink oversized pages to paper size" and "Print as Image", when printing. - Upgrade to Adobe Reader 6 or later. 2. CorelDRAW--When printing a file on letter-size media, select "Fit to Paper" in the Output Paper Size section of the printer driver's Paper tab. If you do not select "Fit to Paper", the image will be cut off on one side. 3. DOS--The DOS copy and print commands are not supported. 4. Excel--When previewing (Print Preview) and printing worksheets and charts, patterns applied to drawing objects and AutoShapes may look and print differently than identical patterns applied to other objects, such as worksheet cells and chart series. 5. Excel--When a document is printed with N-up, the printable area may change. In this happens, adjust one of the following features: - Choose File/Page Setup, and adjust the Margins. - Choose File/Page Setup, and adjust the Scaling. 6. Word--When you print a Word document with Fit to Paper set for the first time, Fit to Paper may not take effect. Use the following procedure to resolve this problem: i. In Word, go to File/Page Setup and open the Page Setup dialog. ii. Choose any other paper size. iii. Choose the original paper size again. iv. Close the Page Setup dialog by clicking on the OK button. 7. Notepad (Windows 2000/XP)--To print multiple copies of a file, use the Number of Copies setting on the File/Print/General tab, not the Copies setting on the File/Print/Setup tab. 8. Internet Explorer 6 (Windows 98)--If you try to print, an Application Error may occur and you may not be able to print. 9. Visio 2000--When using certain fonts, the character spacing may be irregular and overlap. ============================================================ IV. PRINTER DRIVER 1. Collation--In order to collate multiple copies of an N-up or duplex print job with Booklet Left Binding or Booklet Right Binding selected as the Duplex/Booklet option in the printer driver's Setup tab, select collation in the printer driver only. Do not select collation in the application. This will cause the pages to print out of order. 2. Watermarks--When a document has both portrait and landscape oriented pages and the watermark's angle setting is diagonal, the watermark will print correctly for those pages that have the same orientation as the first page. The watermark will not print correctly for the pages having another orientation than the first page. 3. Watermarks--The watermark printing will be changed, if the printer driver's watermark properties are changed during printing. 4. Watermarks--The Watermark may not print with certain font Size and Style combinations. 5. Edit Watermark--The Watermark Preview may look incorrect for certain Typeface, Size and Angle combinations. The actual printout, however, will be correct. 6. Installation (Windows XP)--Due to a Windows limitation, when a second magicolor 2400W printer driver is installed, this printer name in the Printers folder is identified as (Copy 1) rather than (Copy 2). 7. Installation--Do not use Plug-and-Play or the Windows Add Printer Wizard. You must use the CD-ROM Installer in order to correctly install all necessary printer drivers and utilities. 8. Installation--The Printer Name must contain 48 or fewer characters. The default name is KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2400W. 9. Original Document Size--Certain applications may allow you to select an unsupported media size in the Original Document Size list box on the printer driver's Paper tab. However, if you do select an unsupported media size, the file will not print. 10. Overlays--When editing an existing form overlay or creating a new form overlay (Edit Form Overlay button in the printer driver's Setup tab), if you specify the name of an existing form overlay, the new overlay settings overwrite the old settings without asking for confirmation. 11. Overlays--Overlay files are always created as color documents. Therefore, even if you select monochrome printing (B/W on the printer driver's Quality tab), the overlay prints in color. If you want a monochrome overlay, you must create it yourself and save it as an overlay file (Edit Form Overlay button on the printer driver's Setup tab). 12. Overlays--Overlay files must be printed at the same resolution at which they were created. In other words, if you create an overlay file with 600 dpi, any document with which you use this overlay should also be printed at 600 dpi. If you print the overlay with a different resolution, it is automatically resized and, therefore, placed incorrectly on the printed pages. 13. Overlays--Overlay files must be printed at the same Original Document Size at which they were created. If you try to use an overlay file created at a different size, the file will not print. 14. Overlays--Overlay files (*.prn) must be created with the magicolor 2400W driver. If you use an overlay file created with another printer driver (such as the magicolor 2300W, or the magicolor 2300 DL), the overlay file will not print. 15. Overlays--Printing a file with an overlay uses twice the virtual memory of regular printing. Therefore, it is recommended that you increase your PC's virtual memory. 16. Print Speed (Windows XP)--Under Windows XP, monochrome printing may be reduced to 5 ppm just after installation of the driver. Restart your PC to fix this issue. 17. Uninstallation--If you uninstall the printer driver, you must restart the PC to complete the uninstallation. Otherwise, some files are locked by the Windows operating system and, therefore, cannot be deleted. 18. Original Document Size--When you choose Letter Plus, UK Quarto, Foolscap, Kai 16 or Kai 32 and try to print, you must have the correct media size loaded in the input tray. If not, the printer will stop printing. 19. Manual Duplex--If a media jam occurs during printing of the back side of a print job, the job will be canceled. 20. Printing Properties--Don't change the following printer settings: - Details tab/Spool Setting (Windows 98/Me) - Advanced tab (Windows 2000/XP) 21. Network setting--This printer does not support network install or printer sharing. ============================================================ V. STATUS DISPLAY 1. Connectivity--The Status Display supports only USB ports. 2. Printer Name Change--When the printer's name is changed, you must restart your PC in order to work with the Status Display correctly. 3. Printer Status Refresh Rate--When a large print job is being printed, printer Status may not be refreshed until the print job has finished. 4. Rights--Only "Administrators" group users (Windows 2000) or "Computer Administrator" account users (Windows XP) can use the Status Display. 5. Sharing Limitation--If the magicolor 2400W is shared, you cannot use the Status Display. ============================================================ TRADEMARKS KONICA MINOLTA is a trademark or a registered trademark of KONICA MINOLTA HOLDINGS, INC. magicolor is a trademark or a registered trademark of KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
